REALTOR® Code of Ethics: “Reputation Is Revenue”

Stay in good standing with NAR and lower your risk at the same time.
Code of Ethics training is required every 3 years to maintain membership in the National Association of REALTORS®. This course satisfies the NAR ethics training requirement and reflects the most recent updates adopted last June.

In this fast paced, real world session, we walk through Articles 1–17 of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics, the Standards of Practice, and how they actually show up in your business today.

Course Overview

The Code of Ethics is not just a rule book. It is:

  • A risk management tool

  • A business plan for client care

  • A reputation protector

  • The foundation for most state license laws

This class connects the dots between what the Code says and what you do every day in listings, buyer consults, negotiations, advertising, referrals, and online communication.

What You Will Learn

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain how the Preamble and “Under All Is The Land” sets the tone for your professional obligations.

  • Apply Articles 1–9 to real situations involving:

    • Presenting and negotiating offers

    • Confidentiality and disclosure of latent defects

    • Dual agency and multiple offers

    • Handling client funds and written agreements

  • Identify Fair Housing and anti-discrimination requirements under Article 10, including marketing, steering, and “panic peddling” scenarios.

    2025 COE

  • Recognize when you are crossing the line in advertising and social media under Article 12, including “free” services, inducements, websites and domains.

  • Spot competency issues under Article 11 so you know when to get help, refer out, or disclose limits to your expertise.

  • Navigate cooperation, commissions, and offers of compensation under Article 3 without creating ethics headaches.

  • Understand your duties to other REALTORS® in Articles 15–16, including what is and is not interference with another agent’s client.

    2025 COE

  • Describe how Article 17 arbitration works so you know what happens if there is a commission dispute.

June Code of Ethics Updates

The course highlights and explains the most recent changes adopted last June, including:

  • Updated language around professionalism, harassment, and discriminatory conduct.

    2025 COE

  • Clarifications to standards of practice related to online content, advertising, and interactions with the public and other REALTORS®.

We look at real scenarios so you can see exactly how these changes affect your day to day work.

Who Should Attend

  • Active REALTORS® who need to meet the NAR Code of Ethics requirement

  • Brokers, managers and team leaders who want consistent office policy around ethics and risk

  • Newer agents who want a clear, practical understanding of “how this really works”

  • Experienced agents who have not taken an updated Code class since the latest revisions
